Finally, A Safe Phone for Kids from ZTE and Gabb Wireless
Between concerns around too much screen time and exposure to inappropriate material, parents struggle with balancing the need to provide children with a tool for communication while protecting them from exposure and excessive use. ZTE and Gabb Wireless partnered to create the newly available Gabb Z1 to help overcome these challenges.
The New Safe Network
Many adults admit they find it difficult to put their phones down. In fact, even their kids are concerned about them. Since nearly 89% of parents blames themselves for their kids’ over use of cell phones, many adults — including Silicon tech execs — are searching for ways to help their children use technology more responsibly.
Gabb Wireless was founded to give parents more options. The company previously announced its intent to launch “the nation’s first entirely safe mobile phone and mobile phone network, a platform designed to provide cellular-safety for kids and peace of mind for parents.”
“Our mission is to give families a safe mobile experience, one without risks like addiction to gaming, exposure to pornography, sexting, cyberbullying and the anxiety and depression that result from social media dependence,” says Gabb Founder and CEO Stephen Dalby. “We are not against technology but rather seek to provide parents with age-appropriate solutions for introducing technology to their kids.”
None of the phones approved for the Gabb Wireless Network will be equipped with an Internet browser nor be able to connect to an app store. Gabb phones will operate on the nationwide Gabb Wireless Network, powered by the country’s premier 4G LTE provider.
The Gabb Z1 phone operates on a Gabb Basic service plan, which costs $19.99 per month and provides users with unlimited talk and text. No long-term contracts are required, so parents can start and stop service for their children at any time.
“From our first meeting, ZTE has demonstrated a clear desire to provide safe cell phones for children and peace of mind for parents,” says Dalby. “Our launch simply would not have been possible without the tremendous vision and support we’ve received from them.”
Now available in Utah, the Gabb Z1 is a Quad Core 1.1 Hz Android device. It has a 5-megapixel back camera and 2-megapixel front camera. All Gabb phones come with calendar, calculator, alarm and FM radio apps built into the operating system. The price is $99.99, including activation and shipping.
